The ABCs of life

July 27, 2008

Scenario A

You met in prison. He’s in for a simple crime of being conned by
others, and you’re in for a simple crime of temporary lapse of sanity
that caused an erroneaous decision for which 2 years is both your
penalty.

You’re both incarcerated for a 2 year investigation. Bail is set at RM20K.

You decide to count the days. He values his freedom.

You stand behind the bars and.. wonder why you’re still there.

Scenario B

You’re at war. You turn to your comrades next to you and say
"Soonnn.. soon after we win the war we’d be home" and you continue
fighting, guns ablaze under the constant barrage of bullets coming your
way.

Your war buddy gets a broken toe. That makes him eligible to be
sent home. Toe repair costs him RM20K of his own money however, and
that sux for him. But he goes home.

You stay in war, back unprotected, and continue to fight a losing battle.

Soldiers don’t cry.

Scenario C

You’re in kindergarden with 30 different kids. It’s a big school
with private classes, and you’re in the same class with 4 people during
your first 6 months. In the subsequent 8 months, 1 kid left and the
other kid changed class. Now it’s the 2 of you in your class sharing
the same teacher.

News just in: he’s moving to Africa. His family bought a new house there that costed them RM20K.

Going to class just got a trifle more unappealing, there’s less
one friend to play "what I want to be when I grow up" during recess
time.

You sit at the playground alone.

********

A meeting by chance, a friendship by choice. A regrettable but inevitable goodbye. That is, but the ABCs of life.
